Oftentimes, you would see a link in blue included in websites and appears to be underlined on a webpage. This is called "anchor text" and it is a link that is directed to another page either inside the same website or on a different site. Anchor text is something that needs to be learned and understand as well.
With anchor text, you get a double purpose on your keywords. Links that are embedded in your anchor text is what the search engine reads when they crawl your site and that gives them a view of what your website is all about.
As they say, there is always an exception to the rule. SEO applies the same with anchor text and it is doing over-optimization of your site through it. This can cause search engine to reduce your ranking or gets you blocked from the search engine results at worse. Over-optimization is when all the anchor text on your site is the same as your keywords and there is no disparity or it does not at all apply to any related terms in the anchor text.
Another element of anchor text is the links that are actually embedded in the keywords and phrases used on the webpage. These links are just as significant as the text for which they are anchored. Search engine crawlers love to follow these links and if they get headed to a related website then your site will get better positioning from search engine results as compared to links leading to a completely irrelevant site.
Anchor text may just seem entirely irrelevant to keywords but the fact is, it is relative. When used appropriately in combination with your keywords, anchor text will greatly benefit your site in terms of search engine rankings.
Anchor text is no doubt very important to any linking strategy. Each webmaster has various ideas of what optimization will work with their business campaigns. The more you understand, the better you can use these various aspects of SEO to your advance. So use anchor text wisely and to your advantage.
